Advisory Council
Family Centered Care is an evolving process
based on a philosophy of family empowerment.
Within its foundation, this system-wide
approach to healthcare recognizes a basic
assumption: family members hold essential
information that can enhance a patient's
care. Collaborating with families,
acknowledging their strengths and resources,
and respecting their choices and priorities
are the cornerstones of family centered
care.
As we enter a new age of healthcare, Windham
Hospital is building a partnership that
recognizes the expertise of patients and
families and healthcare professionals.
By creating Advisory Councils we establish
a formal mechanism to capture patient and
family input and perspectives and involve
them in policy and program decision making.
The function of these councils will vary
depending on the identified needs. Some
will be formulated around a renovation
project others around a population served
or service and still others will be created
to develop new programs. Membership consists
of former patients, family members and
professional staff. Anyone interested in
becoming a member
of an Advisory Council is welcome.
